New blog, new lifestyle. I can’t say that I’m just now starting on my journey to being a better, healthier me, but I can say that it is finally becoming one of the most important things in my life. It all started right around May of 2011, when my boyfriend Vince and I decided to start Martial Arts instead of “jogging” outside during the upcoming summer. June 1st, 2011 we joined Chinese Martial Arts, a Seven-star Praying Mantis Traditional Kung Fu school in Chicago, IL. Ever since, our lives have been slowly changing for the better. Through Kung Fu, Qi Gong, and Acupuncture sessions, Vince and I started learning about the Eastern ways of health care. Through NetFlix streaming, we started watching a few interesting documentaries:
Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead
Forks Over Knives
Dying to have Known
To say the least, our minds were blown. In March of 2012, we vowed to greatly decrease our intake of meat, dairy, and processed foods and greatly increase our intake of fruits, vegetables, and non-processed foods. Through this, Vince and I greatly reduced our intake of sodium, which helped Vince greatly since he was on the verge of hypertension and his doctor was saying if his blood pressure continued to remain high he would be looking at taking blood pressure medications, which is something Vince definitely did not want to do. Nowadays, with his sodium intake greatly reduced and his diet much better than before (he was eating meat for every meal, 3 times a day before!!) his blood pressure is normal! Yay!
Anyways, this blog is here to document the steps I am taking to eat healthier, exercise harder, and get a killer bod for my wedding and for the rest of my life (even when I have babies!)
I hope you enjoy my insight and if anyone has any questions, let me know! I love to share my thoughts and actions and would love any and all feedback. 🙂
